About
James Chong, founder.
Founder of Safety Month-End. Seventeen years on safety systems. Still checks packs himself.
James has worked on safety systems since 2008: configuring them, migrating them, and building the reports and dashboards that come out of them for some of Australia's largest miners, utilities, retailers and government agencies.
Most of that time was spent watching capable safety people lose the first week of every month to a report. The data was there. The time wasn't. Safety Month-End is the service he wanted to hand them.
Career, briefly
- 2008 to 2010Implementation consultant for an EHS software vendor.
- 2011 to 2012Client-side technical consultant at a major gold miner.
- 2013 to 2025Senior implementation consultant for an enterprise EHS platform: requirements, configuration, data migration, SQL reporting and dashboards, training and go-live.
- 2025 to nowIndependent. Reporting, analytics and draft-only AI for safety-critical work.
Before that: computer and mathematical sciences at UWA, a graduate start in software engineering at Fujitsu, a year monitoring core banking systems in London, and a food franchise in his twenties with 40 staff. Running a business isn't new.
How he works
Remote-first, from a small farm in WA's Southern Forests. Cattle, bees, timber. Site visits when the work needs it.
Why a fixed price
The product is priced for a finished report, not for hours. That is the point.
What Safety Month-End believes about AI in safety work
It should do the paperwork, not make the decisions. Data sovereignty is a requirement, not a feature. And a report should answer the questions leaders actually ask.
